PIANISTS/SINGERS
![]() Kate Threlfall is a soulful young singer songwriter who incorporates a love of Jazz, Soul and many things in between in her honest and warm songs at the piano. Born in Manchester to wonderfully musical parents and a family of performers, Kate was raised learning the piano and cello, finding her love for singing around aged 8 when she was introduced to Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin amongst many more. She discovered songwriting in her teens, which led her to studying at The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts for three years, performing in a number of different guises. She has performed with the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra's 10 10 Contemporary Ensemble with beautiful arrangements of her own songs, conducted by Clark Rundell; as part of Chester Summer Music Festival at Alexander's Jazz Club, Chester, where she is a now a regular artist; and earlier in 2010 at Marlborough Jazz Festival, where she performed as part of UK Jazz Radio's Jazz Performer Competition, where she won Best Vocalist 2010. She also enjoyed a recent performance at London's Rich Mix as part of a showcase of up-and-coming Jazz talent with Jazz FM. Kate has enjoyed much collaboration with other artists, particularly with The Bridgewater Hall's Poet in Residence, Terry Caffrey, setting his beautiful words to music, which she performed as part of the 2009 Piano Festival at the Bridgewater Hall. She also collaborated with her brother, Will Threlfall aka Lenny Smart on writing the festival song for 2009's celebr8 (don't discrim8), a festival promoting acceptance and friendship around the North West which involved six performances in six cities in one day.
